As a Christmas gift to my adult children in 2009, I gave a year-long commitment to pray daily for each of them and to also have my prayers based on scripture.  I fulfilled that commitment in the form of this blog and finished 365 days of prayers on December 26, 2010. What an adventure! What I’ve learned is best said by Paul E. Miller in his book, “A Praying Life”:

What do I lose when I have a praying life? Control. Independence.
What do I gain? Friendship with God. A quiet heart. The living work of God in the hearts of those I love. The ability to roll back the tide of evil. I lose my kingdom and get his. I move from being an independent player to a dependent lover.

I have enjoyed the empowerment of praying verses of the Bible and have been diligent about it ever since reading “Praying God’s Word” by Beth Moore. My hope is that other parents reading these prayers will be encouraged by the sheer power of God’s word and the peace that comes from using prayer as a “first resort.”  Below is my favorite quote about intercession:

“You cannot truly intercede through prayer if you do not believe in the reality of redemption… True intercession involves bringing the person, or the circumstance that seems to be crashing in on you, before God, until you are changed by His attitude toward that person or circumstance…Intercession is putting yourself in God’s place; it is having His mind and His perspective…What we must avoid in intercession is praying for someone to be simply “patched up.” We must pray that person completely through into contact with the very life of God…When we pray on the basis of redemption, God creates something He can create in no other way than through intercessory prayer.” (Oswald Chamber, My Utmost For His Highest, December 13)

Because I will continue to pray daily for my children and since these daily prayers have gained so many subscribers, it will remain perpetual. The first day of each month will be a prayer for “me, as their mother.” The last day of the month will be a prayer based on a name of God. The rest of the month will be based on random scriptures that fall into different categories. On the homepage, prayers can be pulled up based on their category.

God bless each of you as you stand on the front lines fighting for the children whom God has entrusted to you and at the same time has asked you to relinquish to Him. He does love them more than we ever could.

To my grown kids…

I’ve dropped everything to write you about this life of salvation that we have in common.
